I hope you still dream

Do you remember how to dream?

I hope you do.

I hope you yet look out the window and see a merry little world that is not, really, right next to your desk or across the highway lane.

I hope ideas and plans and futures pop into your head in a way that makes you just smile to think about. It can be a wide smile as you walk down the street, or a quiet smile to yourself that only you notice. But smiles are wonderful. And we need more of them.

But I hope you smile.

I hope seeing wildflowers, or running through the ocean, or laying on your bed with your favorite book, reminds you of that spark of childish delight and creativity inside you – the spark you can’t lose, no matter how badly you’ve misplaced it.

I hope you dance to a memory and, just once in awhile, let yourself construct castles in the air or grand plans/adventures without worrying about the engineering of a castle on a cloud or the logistics of accomplishing the dream adventure.

As Anne Shirley says, sometimes half the fun is the planning and dreaming and looking forward to something. It almost makes up for the crash that comes when it doesn’t work out.

Regardless of whether you prefer to live on even plains or, like me, would rather spend your days on top of the mountains and crashing in the valleys —

I hope you remember to dream. Whatever that looks like for you.
