There is one thing that I have never been good at: looking serious when told I’m supposed to.

This doesn’t mean I can’t be serious, or that I’m not serious/professional/sad (aka bawling) when called for. But when I’m told to be serious: that’s either because I’m acting or doing a photoshoot.

And the unfortunate results are simply cracking up. Hopelessly. Over something that may or may not have been particularly funny. (Directors get mad at me.) But just because I’m supposed to have a straight face – well, I fail. I don’t even try to have staring contests with people anymore; I lose it (and the contests) as soon as it’s half-suggested.

To illustrate the point, Ellie and I had a photoshoot with Laura a few days ago to help her experiment with lighting and equipment in her new indoor studio.

These are the (candid) shots that came out of us trying (really hard?) to look serious:

We laughed so hard we cried. And subsequent photos show my mascera all smudged. With the incredible frequency that I both cry and laugh so hard that I cry (and go swimming!) – I really need to get some waterproof mascera.

But we did get a shot where I was not dying of laughter! Actually, we got a lot. But I love the lighting on this one – we were copying the portrait lighting and pose from a book of vintage Hollywood portraits. Now I just need the dreamy dresses…and pin curls…

    Being serious is overrated 😛

The thing I love about us is how much fun we have. Those pictures show two people who are so genuine when they laugh it looks like the most wonderful thing in the world…
