summer is for reading

I love  summer reading.

It means making a list (sometimes) of an incredibly optimistic amount of books I want to read. It means being able to read books that are not assigned for school. It means using and abusing my local library. And this summer, it also means reading for over an hour a day on my train commute. Wheeee!

But I get a little excited by all the books begging to be read. I’m usually reading no less than three at a time; right now I’m probably in the middle of six. Oooops.

Here’s a sampling of the delicious pages currently taking over my bedroom chair, dresser, and desk:

Just finished:

Craving Grace, by Lisa Velthouse

Auralia’s Colors, by Jeffrey Overstreet

In the Middle:

One Thousand Gifts, by Ann Voskamp

My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business, by Dick Van Dyke

Writing to Change the World, by Mary Pipher

Switch, by Chip and Dan Heath

(and two different issues of Real Simple, scarfed from my sister)

Waiting, not very patiently, to be read:

Mystery and Manners, by Flannery O’Connor

This Time Together, by Carol Burnett

Out of the Silent Planet, by C.S. Lewis

Cyndere’s Midnight, by Jeffrey Overstreet

Linchpin, by Seth Godin

Surprised by Joy, by C.S. Lewis

….and others. Many others.

What’s on your list? Any recommendations?!

Here’s what I have on my list: http://theliterarylamppost.wordpress.com/paulines-reading-list/
I have quite a long one, but I also just finished Lewis’s space trilogy… really enjoyed it. It’s quite worth reading. 🙂

Man, oh man! I wish I could have a reading list that long. That is one of the good things about the train though. (However, I more often would forget my book then have an incredibly boring hour ride, lol.)

Those books all look fabulous! Right now, I’m rereading Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes. I also just reread two Dana Girls books 😛 I like your list a lot though!

My list includes anything on my book shelf that I own but have never read.

There is an APPALLING number of these books and I’m zipping through them as fast as I can.

-“The Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
    -“Refractions” by Makoto Fujimura
-“Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” by Douglas Adams

    and many, many others.
