smiles

Mondays can get a bad rap around here.  We just don’t like getting back to work or school or whatever it is that Mondays bring.  So I thought I’d add some cheer by sharing some things that made me smile today.

{I don’t care if the clock says it’s Tuesday.  It’s night, and I plan on being up for a little while still.  It’s Monday}

– randomly running into friends as I walk around campus.  I think it’s my favorite part of college.

– watermelon for breakfast, a smoothie for lunch, and a pretty day to top it off.  I’m definitely in a summery mood.  (I suppose this would have been improved by eating both those things at the beach.  But I’ll be happy with a day that’s not freezing and/or snowing!)

 – remembering the boy I fell in love with last week.  His name is Evan.  He is about 14 months old, and has the longest eyelashes and sweetest dimpled smile.  He also flung both his arms around my neck and hugged my back while I was sitting on the ground in the nursery comforting another tot, and proclaimed “I got you!”  Heart.  Melted.  (For the record, I love hugs in general and especially unexpected hugs from behind.  I’m not sure how a todder figured that out, but it made my day).

– and while we’re on the topic of cute kids, note this exchange from my house (Big Sister is home on spring break, much to everyone’s delight. Except mine.  Because our breaks didn’t overlap).  Anyway.  In Big Sister’s words:

“Small One and I were reading a Magic School Bus book today about insects. One of the pages explained that ants can carry something like 25 times their weight . . . that would be equivalent to a 50 pound kid lifting a small car. I turn to Small One and we have the following conversation:

Me: Wow – isn’t that amazing?
SO: I can carry a… small car.
Me: You can?
SO: Yes, I’ll show you.

She proceeds to walk over to the toy chest, open it up, and pick up a matchbox car.

Me (trying desperately hard not to laugh): Yes, yes you can carry a small car. ”

That kid is going places.

    That is just the most adorable story about Small One 🙂

    For some reason, I get this feeling that your life at college would make a good movie…

    Love you, and you’d better invite me to the wedding. That Evan sounds like a keeper!
