and the clock strikes midnight: whisked back to another world

Where did those three lovely weeks go?  They’ve just vanished into the snowy air.  I find myself back in my dorm room, with piles of suitcases, clothes, and books stashed around me.  And no family members or roommate (yet) to yell at me and tell me to go to bed.

But I’m sleepy.  The rest of the unpacking will wait until tomorrow.

I have, however, caught a strange sense of spring cleaning fever; I want to clean and organize and re-arrange my room.  I also really want to make it terribly creative and cute.  Unfortunately, I have no ideas how, and don’t really have much money to spend.

Do you have ideas for decorating a dorm?  Please share!

(this is mostly to let you know that I am, in fact, still alive, if slightly sleepy and disconcerted, and will be back to the regular content soon).

  • 1. Annie  |  January 8, 2011 at 11:23 pm has posters for super cheap. my roommates and i bought four to decorate our apt. living room in a cities theme and probably paid $15 in total for them.

my roommate kelsey printed a ton of pictures of her and friends to tape all over her wall last year. she made a real cool effect by adding ribbon.

i am not terribly creative when it comes to decoration – but perhaps these ideas helped?

hey Megan! glad you’re safely back at school but I know what you mean about these last few weeks just flying!
The cutest room is a neat room, I think. 😉 But for low budget (don’t we all have low budgets, being college students ;)), a great idea is to comb thrift stores… you can find some really cute stuff there. also, to agree with Annie, my roomie and I have a black and white theme, and we printed out a bunch of black and white pictures from the internet on our dorm printer, cut them out, and hung them at various places around the room. 🙂 oooor you could go to a dollar store (if you can get a ride… or ask your mom to send you….) and get a very cute 2011 calendar for around a dollar and stick it on your wall. I don’t know if they have a Michael’s where you are, but sometimes Michael’s has some pretty cute calendars in their dollar section.
Come to think of it, the dollar section has some pretty cute other things too, like ribbons and tiny frames, etc.
if you come across some inexpensive little frames, you could create a smaller version of this for one of your walls:
of course with your own room colors… probably for under $15 if you shop smart. 🙂 You could frame pressed flowers, photos from the internet (feel free to go and download any of my photos if you so desire… email me and I’ll give you my site and the password), photos of you and friends, eiffel towers… 😉 the possibilities are endless!
Good luck… and if you come up with something, I’d love to see pictures! 🙂 Blessings!

oooh I found some other ideas on the web too.
One site suggested creating post card murals, with postcards from all the places you and your roommate have been. If you have some lying around, that might be kinda fun. 🙂
you can also replace your dorm dresser knobs with some designer ones, or ones purchased at a thrift/antiques store. Depending on the place, you can usually get cute knobs for a few dollars apiece. Just make sure to keep the original knobs in a safe place so you can replace them at the end of the semester when you move out. 😉
Another thing too… if you know of any seniors graduating this semester, they might be trying to get rid of/sell some of their decor items that they can’t take with them to their new place. 🙂
good luck and have fun with it!
