fall

“We could get an apartment that’s two stories!!

“Meggers, are you not doing your work? Again?”

“Lookit, lookit!”

I’m pretty bad (good?) at distracting my roomie.  She looked, admired, and went back to her organic chemistry.  I went back to staring wrathfully at the computer screen that’s waiting for me to write a paper on it.

I brainstormed for a while.  Then I decided I needed a break.  And then  decided this little blog needed to be updated.

The first weekend of October has decided to become the first weekend of fall.  The trees are beautiful, the weather is crisp.  Dorm room doors are decorated for Halloween, the dining hall has festive leaves and guards around, and I drank hot apple cider today.

I kind of love apple cider.

I also brought out my green pea coat (it was freezing this morning at 9 a.m. as we waited for the church van, let me tell you), and carved a pumpkin today.

This is my pumpkin last year.  You see, every fall Navs has a freshman/sophomore pumpkin carving event.  This is me and two sweet sophomore (now junior) girls and the pumpkin we carved together.

Okay, they really carved the pumpkin.  I offered moral support and helped a small bit.

This year, my partner was a great freshman named Eric.  While our pumpkin didn’t look as quite as amazing as the one above (it was a face with glasses and a mustache), we actually carved it.

I learned my lesson from last year: I did not bring a purse.  I wore a sweatshirt, not my lil coat, and did not bother with looking cute, because carving a pumpkin is messy.  This means I scooped out the insides pretty much all by myself (we accidentally made the hole in the top just big enough for my hand…) and then held Mr. Pumpkin while Eric wielded the power tools.  Yes, we – he – did most of the carving with an electric drill.  This is the twenty-first century, after all.

And I don’t have a picture, because I didn’t bring my purse, and therefore I didn’t bring my camera either.  I’ve been pretty bad at taking pictures lately!

Yesterday was filled with fall fun, too – some of the sophomore Navs girls got together and hung out and made the cutest headbands.  Maybe I’ll post a tutorial sometime.  Or at least a picture of the one I made!  And then was the football game.  It was at night and we lost rather badly – but it’s always better to lose on TV than it is in the stadium.  And we realized that some of our favorite moments of football games are when they play songs and we sing and dance along – so we blasted the songs they play every game (Don’t Stop Believin’, Living on a Prayer, Hey, Baby) and sang along to them.  It was great.

And now I’m off to work some more on my paper.  And I still have not found my singing voice, which is really frustrating for this musical girl.  It’s so sad to be singing my favorite worship songs at church and not be able to actually hit the notes (or even sing anything…).  But I suppose it makes me more grateful for the ease with which I can usually sing!

And I’ll keep you updated on the housing thing.  It’s a wee bit stressful to have to think about apartments and houses and moving off-campus next year.  (Not that I couldn’t get a dorm next year…but roomie and I want to move off).  And I’ll probably have anywhere from 5 to 7 roommates – which would be insane, and, I think, really fun.

We’ll see what happens!

    1) I want your coat.
    2) I thought how fun it would be if we pumpkin carved together, then had this vision of the possibility of what our pumpkin looked like…
    3) I hope your singing voice comes back!!!
    4) I miss you 🙂

    HAHAHA!

I literally just burst out laughing picturing our pumpkin. I have a feeling it would look amazing in our heads (like Cinderella in her carriage or Mary & Rhonda or something ridiculous like that) but wouldn’t turn out to well…..knowing us….

    🙂

And, oh. I miss you more!
