yet another adventure

Apparently, my Big State University is going to miss me this summer.  It decided to give me a going away present – one last freshman fling.  AKA, let’s strand Megan again!

(Just to recap: in one year, I’ve been stranded on a bus, and in a snowstorm, and in a random staircase that locks on the inside).  And now I am currently a refugee in my friend Megan’s room.  (She gets a lot of shout-outs on this blog.  She’s just that awesome).  And no, she didn’t kidnap me.  I was evacuated.

So.  I had my last final (econ) tonight, and I got back and was eating cookies and going online and generally enjoying relaxation, and then I decided I should probably start packing a little bit.  (Remember that whole getting overwhelmed about packing and trying to ignore it bit?  Yeah, that’s what I was really doing).  So I threw away my notebooks, piled up my textbooks to be sold back, and started going through the pile of papers in my letter holder.  I have Tenth Avenue North music playing on Pandora when my door bursts open, an RA pokes her head in and says all in a rush, “I’m sorry, you’re going to need to leave, we’re evacuating this building because of a possible bomb threat.  Grab what you need to study tonight and go to the student union!”

A WHAT????  Bomb threat?  One of my friends wasn’t too concerned; this has happened in her high school a few times and she was used to it.  (she is also sick and on meds and slightly out of it).  Yes.  Well.  I was homeschooled.  And I promise you, we never had bomb threats.

So yes, I was kinda freaked out.  I was done work, so I didn’t have any exams, so I whirled around the room wondering what on earth I should take.  I wound up throwing my laptop in my backpack, grabbing my purse and my book and bolting.  I’m not even sure I have my wallet with me.  But after wandering around the student union, finding out the little information they had (a suspicious package was found in the janitor’s closet and they called the bomb squad and don’t go back to your dorm…), I called miss Megan and we decided to move our celebratory smoothie date up a half hour and just go now.  So we went downtown and got smoothies, and I’ve just been chilling in her dorm room for a bit, since that wasn’t evacuated.  🙂

At least it gave me something to write about.

Latest reports say that it’s fine (well, they say it’s a “hoax”) and I should be allowed back in my dorm soon.  I do hope so, as I haven’t gotten anything packed and it’s after midnight!  But as my dorm is the honors dorm, I did get a few laughs out of one friend’s comment: “Clearly, someone is trying to eliminate the curve-busters!”

In other news, today and yesterday I studied for exams with some girls from my Bible study.  I’m not sure why it took me until the very last day of the semester to discover how awesome it is to study with people.  Not necessarily the same subject, but just to have friends around makes it fun and you still get work done.  Note to self: remember that for next semester.  Note to friends going to college: try it!

And now, I’m off to await that text that will let me back in my room…here’s to all the college adventures!

My poor dear…at least you could bring some things! I pray all is well with you and that you’re back in your room. I love you!

    Waiting for an e-mail,
P.S. You have gotten stranded a lot lately!
