I can’t do this on my own

One thing I’ve been learning through this great adventure of Getting Ready for College is how much I need other people.

I like to pretend I can do it myself, with a minimum amount of hassle and disturbing others.  And I’ve learned that I can’t.

My sister takes a list of everything (and I mean everything) I could possibly need for college (that she made), and checks things, tells me what I need and where to get it, or simply puts me in the car and then throws things in my cart.  My mom thinks ahead to all the things I’ll need when I get sick.  My mom’s friend comes over to help me organize and pack.  My Dad helps me think logically through some things that I’m stuck on.

When I just want to run away and hide, or hope this big complicated mess goes away, someone helps me through the next little step.  I really can’t do this on my own.  And I’m wondering if that’s why God put us in communities – because He knew that we really can’t do anything on our own.  We need Him, desperately.  And we need others to stand beside us and help us, to pull us along and compliment us with their strengths.  And we need to help and strengthen others in turn.

Community – family – friends….it really is a wonderful invention, God.  Glad you thought of it.

Because otherwise, I’d be lost.
